Keyword Analysis (关键词分析)

When to Use

  • Identifying trending topics and search terms
  • Improving content discoverability in search
  • Analyzing competitor keyword strategies
  • Planning content around high-demand keywords
  • Measuring keyword performance and ranking
  • Conducting SEO research for Xiaohongshu

Do NOT use when:

  • Monitoring general content performance (use data-analytics)
  • Tracking follower growth metrics (use data-metrics-understanding)
  • Analyzing engagement patterns (use content-performance-analysis)
  • Reviewing overall account analytics (use data-analytics)

Core Pattern

Before (guessing topics, low discoverability):

❌ "I think people search for 'skincare tips'"
❌ "No research on what's actually trending"
❌ "Content buried, nobody finds it"
❌ "Guessing game, hit-or-miss results"

After (data-driven keywords, high discoverability):

✅ "'Winter skincare for dry skin' has 50K searches"
✅ "Long-tail keywords have less competition, high intent"
✅ "Optimized content ranks #1, 10x more views"
✅ "Keyword research drives content strategy"

4 Keyword Types:

  1. Short-tail - Broad, high volume, high competition (e.g., "skincare")
  2. Medium-tail - More specific, moderate competition (e.g., "dry skin skincare")
  3. Long-tail - Specific phrases, lower competition (e.g., "winter skincare routine for dry sensitive skin")
  4. Trending - Time-sensitive buzzwords (e.g., "glass skin trend 2025")

- Intent: Learning and education

Search Intent Types:

- Navigational: Finding specific brand/account

Keyword Research Must Match Intent:
Don't optimize for "buy skincare" with educational content
Don't optimize for "how to treat acne" with sales page

Step 2: Collect Keyword Data

Keyword Research Methods:

Method 1: Platform Native Search
Use Xiaohongshu's built-in search:

Process:
1. Start typing topic in search bar
2. Note autocomplete suggestions (these are popular searches)
3. Review search results for top content
4. Check related searches at bottom
5. Note keyword suggestions

What to capture:
- Autocomplete terms
- Related searches
- Top ranking content
- Search result count (shown at top)
- Content formats that rank

Example:
Search: "skincare"
Autocomplete suggests:
- "skincare routine"
- "skincare for acne"
- "skincare products"
- "skincare tips"
- "winter skincare"
- "skincare for dry skin"

Capture all these as keyword opportunities

---

Method 2: Competitor Analysis
Research what keywords competitors rank for:

Process:
1. Identify top 10 competitors in niche
2. Search their brand and topics
3. Analyze their top-performing content
4. Note keywords in their titles and tags
5. Check their hashtag usage

Tools:
- Manual review of competitor profiles
- Xiaohongshu search for competitor content
- Third-party analytics tools (Huitun, etc.)

What to analyze:
- Keywords in post titles
- Hashtag strategies
- Topic frequency
- Content formats that work
- Engagement for keyword-targeted content

Example findings:
- Competitor A ranks for "anti-aging skincare"
- Competitor B dominates "acne treatment" keyword
- Opportunity: Neither targets "sensitive skin care" well
- Strategy: Target underserved "sensitive skin" keywords

---

Method 3: Third-Party Tools
Use specialized keyword research tools:

Platform-Specific Tools:
✅ Huitun Data (灰豚数据)
- Keyword search volume data
- Competition analysis
- Trending keywords
- Competitor keyword rankings

✅ Chanmama (蝉妈妈)
- Live stream keyword analysis
- Product keyword performance
- Creator keyword associations

✅ Xinhong Data (新红数据)
- Brand keyword monitoring

- User demographics

What to extract:
- Search volume (monthly searches)
- Keyword difficulty (competition level)
- Trend direction (rising, falling, stable)
- Related keywords and variations
- Long-tail opportunities

---

Method 4: Social Listening
Monitor what audience is asking:

Sources:
- Comments on your content (what questions recur?)
- Comments on competitor content
- Community forums and discussions
- Customer service inquiries
- Search suggestions and autocomplete

Capture:
- Questions users ask
- Problems they mention
- Products they compare
- Language they use (exact phrases)
- Pain points and frustrations

Example from comments:
"I don't know which order to apply my products"
→ Keyword opportunity: "skincare routine order"
"My skin is dry in winter, what should I do?"
→ Keyword opportunity: "winter dry skin treatment"

Build Keyword Database:

Organize keywords in spreadsheet:

Columns:
A | Keyword | Category | Volume | Difficulty | Intent | Priority | Status
---|---------|----------|--------|------------|--------|----------|--------
1 | skincare routine | Education | 50K | High | Informational | High | Targeting
2 | dry skin remedies | Problem | 25K | Medium | Informational | High | Ranking #3
3 | best vitamin c serum | Commercial | 15K | High | Commercial | Medium | Not targeting
4 | how to treat acne naturally | How-to | 8K | Low | Informational | High | Opportunity
5 | glass skin trend 2025 | Trending | 12K | Medium | Informational | Medium | Time-sensitive

Categories:
- Product keywords
- Problem keywords
- How-to keywords
- Comparison keywords
- List/best-of keywords
- Trending keywords
- Brand keywords

Status tracking:
- Targeting: Creating content for
- Ranking: Currently ranking in top 10
- Opportunity: Low competition, high value
- Ignore: Not relevant or too competitive

Step 3: Analyze Keyword Competition

Competition Assessment:

Evaluate Keyword Difficulty:

Difficulty Factors:
1. Content Quality of Top Results
- Are top results from major brands?
- Is content comprehensive and authoritative?
- Production value of top content?
- Engagement levels of top content?

Scoring (1-10):
1-3: Low competition (easy to rank)
4-6: Moderate competition (feasible)
7-8: High competition (challenging)
9-10: Very high (difficult without authority)

2. Domain Authority of Rankers
- Established brands dominate?
- Or smaller creators can rank?
- Brand followers vs organic ranking?

3. Content Age
- Are top results recent or old?
- Can new content compete?
- Trending topics favor fresh content

4. Engagement Threshold
- What engagement level ranks?
- Can we realistically achieve this?
- Top result has 10K likes, we get 500 = difficult

Competition Analysis Template:
Keyword: "dry skin skincare routine"

Top 5 Results Analysis:
1. @BigBrand (1M followers) - 15K likes - DA: High
2. @Influencer (500K followers) - 8K likes - DA: Med
3. @SmallCreator (50K followers) - 3K likes - DA: Low
4. @BigBrand2 (800K followers) - 12K likes - DA: High
5. @MediumCreator (200K followers) - 5K likes - DA: Med

Difficulty Score: 7/10 (High)
Opportunity: Result #3 is smaller creator, possible to compete
Strategy: Create more comprehensive content, target long-tail variation

---

Identify Keyword Opportunities:

Opportunity Types:

Type 1: Low Competition, High Volume
- The holy grail: Easy to rank, lots of searches
- Rare but valuable when found
- Act quickly before competition increases

Example: "winter skincare for sensitive skin"
Volume: 8,000 searches/month
Difficulty: 3/10 (Low)
Action: Prioritize content creation

Type 2: Low Competition, Low Volume
- Easier to rank, limited searches
- Good for niche targeting
- Can rank for multiple, aggregate traffic

Example: "vegan skincare for pregnancy"
Volume: 1,200 searches/month
Difficulty: 2/10 (Very Low)
Action: Create if highly relevant to audience

Type 3: High Competition, High Volume
- Very difficult to rank, lots of searches
- Only target if you have authority
- Consider long-tail variations

Example: "acne treatment"
Volume: 100K+ searches/month
Difficulty: 9/10 (Very High)
Action: Skip for now, target long-tail

Type 4: Trending Keywords
- Spike in searches, time-sensitive
- Competition may not have caught up yet
- Act fast, create content immediately

Example: "glass skin trend 2025"
Volume: Spiking to 25K
Difficulty: 6/10 (Moderate, rising fast)
Action: Create trending content now

Type 5: Question Keywords
- "How to," "What," "Why," "When"
- Often lower competition
- High user intent

Example: "how to layer skincare products"
Volume: 5,000 searches/month
Difficulty: 4/10 (Moderate)
Action: Create comprehensive guide

Step 4: Prioritize Keywords

Keyword Selection Framework:

Priority Matrix:

High Priority (Create Content ASAP):
✅ High volume + Low difficulty
✅ High relevance to brand + Good volume
✅ Trending keyword + Still time to create
✅ Long-tail + High conversion intent
✅ Competitor ranking + We can create better

Medium Priority (Create in Next Month):
✅ Medium volume + Medium difficulty
✅ Good volume + Higher difficulty (need to build authority)
✅ Lower volume + Very high relevance
✅ Steady keyword (not trending) + Good opportunity

Low Priority (Maybe Later):
❌ Very high difficulty (unless you have authority)
❌ Very low volume (unless highly relevant)
❌ Low relevance to brand/audience
❌ Declining trend (past its peak)

Keyword Priority Formula:
Priority Score = (Search Volume × Relevance) / Difficulty

Score > 50: High priority
Score 20-50: Medium priority
Score < 20: Low priority

Example Calculations:

Keyword A: "dry skin routine"
Volume: 25,000 (High = 3)
Relevance: 9/10 (Highly relevant)
Difficulty: 6/10 (Moderate)
Score = (25,000 × 9) / 6 = 37,500 → HIGH PRIORITY

Keyword B: "skincare"
Volume: 150,000 (Very High = 5)
Relevance: 10/10 (Core topic)
Difficulty: 9/10 (Very High)
Score = (150,000 × 10) / 9 = 166,666 → BUT too difficult
Decision: Skip, target long-tail instead

Keyword C: "organic skincare for teens"
Volume: 3,000 (Low = 1)
Relevance: 5/10 (Somewhat relevant)
Difficulty: 2/10 (Low)
Score = (3,000 × 5) / 2 = 7,500 → LOW PRIORITY

Keyword D: "winter skincare tips for dry skin"
Volume: 8,000 (Medium = 2)
Relevance: 10/10 (Perfect fit)
Difficulty: 3/10 (Low)
Score = (8,000 × 10) / 3 = 26,666 → HIGH PRIORITY

Step 5: Optimize Content for Keywords

On-Page Keyword Optimization:

Where to Use Keywords:

1. Title (Most Important)
✅ Include primary keyword naturally
✅ Keep front-loaded (keyword in first 50 characters)
✅ Make compelling, not keyword stuffing
✅ Match search intent

Good Examples:
✅ "Winter Skincare Routine for Dry Skin: Complete Guide"
✅ "How to Layer Skincare Products: Step-by-Step Tutorial"
✅ "Best Vitamin C Serums 2025: Reviews and Recommendations"

Bad Examples:
❌ "Skincare Routine Winter Dry Skin Complete" (unnatural)
❌ "Best Skincare Products Tips Tricks How To" (keyword stuffing)

2. First 100 Characters (Description)
✅ Include primary keyword
✅ Provide overview of content
✅ Hook reader immediately
✅ Include secondary keyword if natural

Example:
"Struggling with dry skin this winter? Here's the complete
winter skincare routine for dry skin that actually works.
Includes product recommendations and step-by-step guide."

3. Content Body
✅ Use primary keyword 2-3 times naturally
✅ Include secondary/related keywords
✅ Use variations and synonyms
✅ Write for humans, not search engines
✅ Keyword density: 1-2% (natural, not forced)

4. Hashtags
✅ Include keyword-based hashtags
✅ Mix broad and specific tags
✅ Use 5-10 relevant hashtags
✅ Research popular tags in niche

Example hashtags:
#winterskincare #dryskincare #skincareroutine
#sensitiveskin #skincaretips #dermatologytips

5. Image Alt Text and Captions
✅ Describe image with keywords
✅ Include keyword in image caption
✅ Make it descriptive and natural

Example:
"Image: Woman applying moisturizer to dry skin
Caption: This moisturizer is essential for winter dry skin
 skincare routine"

6. Tags and Mentions
✅ Tag relevant accounts if keyword relates
✅ Use location tags for local keywords
✅ Mention brands/products if reviewing

Keyword Optimization Best Practices:
✅ Natural language over keyword stuffing
✅ User intent first, keywords second
✅ Comprehensive content covers topic thoroughly
✅ Visuals support keyword topic
✅ Update old content with new keywords
❌ Don't sacrifice readability for keywords
❌ Don't overuse exact match (variations are fine)
❌ Don't target too many keywords per post (1-2 primary)

Content Structure for Keywords:

Ideal Structure for Keyword-Optimized Content:

Introduction (First paragraph):
- Hook addressing keyword topic
- Include primary keyword naturally
- State what content will cover
- Match search intent

Example (keyword: "dry skin winter routine"):
"Winter is coming and dry, flaky skin is already showing up.
If you're struggling with dry skin this winter, you're not alone.
This complete winter skincare routine for dry skin will show you
exactly how to keep your skin hydrated and healthy all season."

Body Content:
- Use H2/H3 headings with keyword variations
- Cover topic comprehensively
- Include related keywords naturally
- Provide actionable value
- Use examples and visuals

Example headings:
H2: Why Skin Gets Dry in Winter
H3: 5 Essential Products for Dry Winter Skin
H2: Step-by-Step Winter Skincare Routine
H3: Morning Routine for Hydration
H3: Evening Routine for Repair

Conclusion:
- Summarize key points
- Include call-to-action
- End with keyword variation

Example:
"Follow this winter skincare routine for dry skin and you'll
notice the difference within a week. Have questions about
your specific skin concerns? Drop them below!

For more dry skin tips, check out our complete guide."

Additional Optimization:
- Internal links: Link to related content with keyword anchors
- External links: Cite authoritative sources (builds credibility)
- FAQ section: Answer common questions (more keyword opportunities)
- Updates: Refresh content periodically with new information

Step 6: Track Keyword Performance

Monitoring Keyword Rankings:

Track These Metrics Weekly:

1. Keyword Position
- Where does content rank for target keyword?
- Track movement up or down
- Goal: Top 10 for primary keywords

2. Organic Traffic from Search
- How many views come from search?
- Which keywords drive most traffic?
- Track growth over time

3. Click-Through Rate
- Impressions (how many times shown in search)
- Clicks (how many click to view)
- CTR = Clicks / Impressions
- Benchmark: 10-30% CTR is good

4. Engagement from Search Traffic
- Do search visitors engage?
- Time spent on content
- Follower conversion rate
- Higher engagement = better keyword targeting

5. Keyword Conversions
- For commercial keywords: Purchase rate
- For informational: Follow/save rate
- For how-to: Completion rate
- Track to ROI

Tracking Template:
Weekly Keyword Performance Report

| Keyword | Ranking | Last Week | Impressions | Clicks | CTR | Engagement | Conversions |
|---------|---------|-----------|-------------|--------|-----|------------|-------------|
| dry skin routine | #3 | #5 | 2,500 | 520 | 21% | 15% | 45 |
| winter skincare | #7 | #12 | 1,800 | 270 | 15% | 12% | 28 |
| sensitive skin | #15 | #18 | 800 | 80 | 10% | 18% | 12 |

Trends to Watch:
✅ Rankings improving = Optimization working
✅ CTR increasing = Title becoming more compelling
✅ Engagement high = Good keyword-target audience match
❌ Rankings dropping = Competition increasing or content outdated
❌ Low CTR = Title not compelling or not matching search intent
❌ Low engagement = Wrong keyword or not delivering on promise

Competitor Keyword Monitoring:

Track Competitor Keyword Movement:

Weekly Check:
1. Identify top 5 competitors
2. Search their top keywords
3. Note their rankings
4. Compare to your rankings
5. Identify opportunities

Competitor Keyword Tracking:

| Keyword | Our Rank | Competitor A | Competitor B | Trend | Opportunity |
|---------|----------|--------------|--------------|-------|-------------|
| dry skin tips | #3 | #1 | #5 | Stable | Improve content to #1 |
| acne treatment | NR* | #2 | #8 | Rising | Create content |
| serum reviews | #8 | #4 | #3 | Dropping | Update content |

*NR = Not Ranking

Actions Based on Monitoring:
- If competitor surpasses you: Analyze why, update content
- If competitor ranks for keyword you don't: Create content
- If you're losing rankings: Refresh and improve content
- If you're gaining momentum: Double down on optimization

Step 7: Iterate and Improve

Keyword Optimization Cycle:

Continuous Improvement Process:

Monthly Review:
1. Analyze keyword performance data
