Hulu Downloader is an upcoming browser extension designed to let users capture video from Hulu's web player and save it locally as a standard MP4 file. Rather than relying on screen recorders or third-party desktop applications, this extension will work inside the browser alongside Hulu's existing playback interface, making the process of saving video content as simple as pressing a button while you watch.

Why Hulu Downloader
Hulu delivers its streaming content through encrypted adaptive bitrate technology in the browser, which means there is no native option to right-click a video and save it as a file. The platform's own offline viewing feature is limited to its mobile apps, leaving desktop and laptop users without any way to keep a local copy of the content they are paying to access. If Hulu removes a title from its catalog or you cancel your subscription, anything you intended to rewatch is gone.
Hulu Downloader is being built to address this gap by operating directly inside the browser tab where playback occurs. The extension will detect the active video stream, present download controls through a compact popup, and write a finished MP4 file to your local storage. There is no need to paste URLs into a separate program or configure command-line flags. The entire workflow stays within the browser window you are already using to watch.

How It Will Work
- Install the extension from your browser's extension store once it is released.
- Open Hulu's web player in a new tab and sign in to your account.
- Browse to the movie, series, or episode you want to save.
- Start playback so the browser begins loading the video stream.
- Click the extension icon in the toolbar to open the download popup.
- Confirm the detected video title and choose your preferred resolution.
- Press the download button to begin capturing the stream.
- The finished MP4 file will be saved to your default downloads folder.
Expected Formats
- Input: Hulu web player adaptive video streams (HLS / DASH encrypted segments)
- Output: MP4 container with H.264 video and AAC audio
Exported files will be standard MP4s that play on virtually any device, media player, or editing application without conversion.

Will it work with the Hulu desktop app? No. This extension targets the Hulu web player running inside a browser tab, not a standalone desktop application.
