SKILL.md 原文

DIY Video Maker — Do-It-Yourself Project and Tutorial Videos

The DIY project started with a Pinterest photo of a floating shelf that looked effortless, continued with a trip to the hardware store that cost $87 more than expected because the photo didn't mention that "floating" requires a specific type of bracket that costs $14 each and you need six of them, progressed through three YouTube tutorials that each used different tools and contradicted each other on the critical step of finding wall studs, and concluded four hours later with a shelf that is technically floating but also technically crooked by two degrees — a result that the builder will describe as "adding character" to anyone who visits and notices, which everyone will because two degrees is surprisingly visible when there's a straight doorframe right next to it for comparison. DIY video content thrives because the gap between inspiration and execution is where most projects live, and the content that bridges that gap — showing not just the finished result but the specific sequence of decisions, measurements, mistakes, and corrections that produced it — is the difference between a viewer who tries the project and succeeds and one who tries it and ends up with a shelf that leans. This tool transforms hands-on projects into polished tutorial videos — step-by-step construction guides with materials lists and tool requirements, budget breakdowns showing exactly what the project costs, mistake documentation that prevents the viewer from repeating what went wrong, time-lapse build sequences compressing hours of work into minutes of entertainment, before-and-after reveals demonstrating the transformation, and the honest difficulty assessments that help viewers decide whether this is a weekend project or a "call a professional" situation. Built for DIY content creators teaching practical skills, home-improvement channels documenting renovation projects, maker-space educators creating instructional libraries, brand channels showcasing product applications, hobbyist builders sharing techniques, and anyone whose hands-on projects deserve documentation that helps the next person do it better.

Example Prompts

1. Home DIY Project — Weekend Build Tutorial

"Create an 8-minute DIY tutorial for building a floating shelf with hidden brackets. The result (0-15 sec): the finished shelf — mounted, styled with books and plants, looking exactly like the Pinterest photo that inspired this entire project. 'This shelf costs $34 in materials, takes 3 hours to build, and requires exactly one power tool. Here's how.' Materials and tools on screen: one pine board (1x10x48 inches, $12), hidden shelf brackets ($14 for a pair), wood stain ($8), sandpaper ($4), a drill. 'If you don't own a drill, borrow one. Every other tool is elbow grease.' The prep (15-60 sec): sand the board. 'Start with 120-grit to remove rough spots, finish with 220-grit for smoothness.' Show the sanding — the before texture versus the after. 'You'll know it's ready when you run your hand across it and don't catch any snags.' Apply wood stain. 'One coat. Wipe on with a rag, wait 5 minutes, wipe off excess.' Show the color transformation. 'The cheap pine now looks like expensive walnut. Stain is the single biggest bang-for-your-buck in DIY.' Drying: 'Let it dry for 2 hours. Use this time to find your wall studs, which is the step that determines whether your shelf holds books or falls on your cat.' Finding studs (60-120 sec): the critical step. 'A stud finder costs $20 and prevents $200 in wall repair. If you don't have one, knock on the wall — hollow sounds mean no stud, solid sounds mean stud.' Show both sounds — the difference is audible. 'Mark stud locations with painter's tape. You need at least two studs for a 48-inch shelf.' The measurement: 'Measure the height. Mark level using a spirit level or the free level app on your phone that's surprisingly accurate.' Show the phone-level trick. 'Double-check level. A shelf installed crooked will haunt you every time you look at it. I speak from experience.' Installing brackets (120-200 sec): drill pilot holes into the studs. 'Pilot holes prevent the wood from splitting and make driving screws easier. Use a bit slightly smaller than your screw diameter.' Mount the first bracket. Level check. Mount the second bracket. Level check again. 'Paranoia about level is the difference between a shelf you're proud of and a shelf you're explaining to guests.' Wiggle test: push down and sideways on each bracket. 'If it moves, the screw isn't in a stud. Remove, find the actual stud, and try again. There is no shortcut for this step.' Mounting the shelf (200-260 sec): slide the shelf onto the brackets. 'The shelf has pre-drilled holes on the bottom that align with the bracket rods. If your shelf didn't come with holes, you'll need to drill them — measure twice from the bracket spacing.' The shelf slides on. 'Push it flush against the wall.' Secure with the set screw underneath. 'One screw per bracket, underneath, invisible.' Step back. 'Level. Solid. Floating. We did it.' Styling and final reveal (260-340 sec): add items to the shelf. 'The rule of three: group items in odd numbers. A stack of books, a small plant, a decorative object.' Show the styling process — the first arrangement, the adjustment, the final version. 'Styling is subjective but here's the one rule: leave 30% of the shelf empty. A fully packed shelf is a cluttered shelf.' The final shot: the shelf in context — the room, the wall, the Pinterest photo next to reality. 'Total cost: $34. Total time: 3 hours including drying. Difficulty: 3 out of 10. Pinterest expectation versus reality gap: approximately zero.'"

2. Furniture Build — Intermediate Woodworking Project

"Build a 12-minute DIY video for constructing a simple coffee table. Opening: the finished table in a living room. 'This coffee table cost $65 in lumber and hardware. The equivalent at a furniture store: $300 to $500.' Materials on screen: four 2x4s (legs and frame), one sheet of 3/4-inch plywood (top), wood screws, wood glue, sandpaper, finish of choice. Tools: circular saw (or have the lumber yard make cuts), drill, measuring tape, square, clamps. Cuts (0-120 sec): the cut list on screen. 'Four legs at 16 inches. Four frame pieces — two at 42 inches, two at 22 inches. One top piece at 44x24 inches.' Show each cut. 'If you don't own a saw, most hardware stores will make these cuts for free or under $5. No shame in that — accuracy matters more than tool ownership.' The critical cut: the top. 'Plywood splinters on the cut edge. Put painter's tape on your cut line and cut through the tape. The tape holds the wood fibers and gives you a clean edge.' Show the difference: cut without tape (splintered) versus with tape (clean). Assembly (120-300 sec): the frame first. 'Pre-drill every screw hole. I cannot say this enough. Pre-drill. The 30 seconds per hole prevents split wood, which is 30 minutes of starting over.' Join the frame pieces — butt joints with glue and screws. 'Apply glue to the joint, clamp, then drive two screws. The glue provides the strength. The screws provide the clamp pressure while the glue dries.' Square check with a carpenter's square. 'If the frame isn't square, the table wobbles. Check before the glue dries — you have about 10 minutes to adjust.' Attach legs: inside corners of the frame. 'Each leg gets glue and two screws from the inside of the frame into the leg.' Flip the frame — set it on a flat surface. Check for wobble. 'If it wobbles, one leg is slightly shorter. Sand the bottom of the longest leg rather than adding anything to the shortest one. Subtraction is more precise than addition.' Attach the top: flip the frame upside down, center the plywood, screw from underneath through the frame into the top. 'Screwing from underneath means no visible screws on the surface. The top looks clean.' Finishing (300-420 sec): sand everything — 120, then 220 grit. 'Round the edges slightly. Sharp corners on a coffee table are shin bruisers, and shins remember.' Apply finish. 'For a first project, I recommend a wipe-on polyurethane. It's forgiving, doesn't show brush strokes, and dries in 2 hours.' Three coats — show the application of each. 'Between coats, light sand with 320-grit. This sounds obsessive but it makes the final coat smooth enough that people touch the table and ask what kind of wood it is.' Final reveal (420-480 sec): the table in the room. Items on it. 'A coffee table you built yourself for $65, in one weekend, with basic tools.' The pride moment: 'Every time someone sets their coffee on this table, you'll think "I built that." And then you'll tell them. You won't be able to help it.'"

3. Budget DIY — Dollar Store Transformation

"Produce a 5-minute budget DIY video transforming dollar store items into home decor. Opening: a dollar store haul — 8 items, total cost $10. 'Ten dollars. Eight items. By the end of this video, these will look like they came from a boutique home-decor store.' Item 1 (0-50 sec): plain glass vases ($1 each, buy 3). Transformation: spray paint the outside with matte black paint. Let dry. Wrap the middle section with twine, secured with hot glue. 'Three vases: plain glass to Pottery Barn aesthetic in 10 minutes. Group them in a cluster on a shelf or table.' Show the before and after side by side. Item 2 (50-100 sec): wooden picture frames ($1 each, buy 2). Remove the glass and backing. Paint the frames white. 'Now they're open frames — a trend that costs $15-25 each at decor stores.' Mount them on the wall with Command strips. Tuck dried eucalyptus stems behind the frame. 'The eucalyptus costs $3 at the grocery store and makes these look intentional rather than incomplete.' Item 3 (100-160 sec): plain white candles ($1 each, buy 3). Transformation: wrap the base with cinnamon sticks, tied with twine. 'Fifteen seconds of work per candle. They smell like fall, they look rustic, and guests will ask where you bought them.' Place them on a wooden tray (also from the dollar store). 'The tray ties the candle grouping together and makes it look curated rather than scattered.' The full display (160-240 sec): arrange all transformed items on a console table. The vase cluster on the left. The candle tray in the center. The frames on the wall above. 'Ten dollars and 45 minutes of work. The total aesthetic value is approximately $120 if you bought equivalents at a home-decor store.' Before and after of the entire space. The satisfaction reveal (240-300 sec): 'The secret of budget DIY: expensive-looking decor isn't about expensive materials. It's about intentional arrangement and simple transformations. Spray paint, twine, and grouping items in odd numbers will make dollar-store finds look curated.'"

Tips for Best Results

  1. Show the finished result first — The Pinterest-quality reveal hooks viewers before the tutorial starts. The AI front-loads completed projects.
  2. Include a complete materials list with costs — "$34 total" is the information that decides whether a viewer attempts the project. The AI displays costs when materials_list is enabled.
  3. Document mistakes honestly — The crooked cut that got re-done teaches more than the perfect cut. The AI preserves mistake-and-correction sequences.
  4. Use time-lapse for repetitive steps — Sanding for 20 minutes compresses to 10 seconds. The AI identifies compressible segments.
  5. Show the before-and-after transformation — The side-by-side is the most shareable frame. The AI renders comparison shots for maximum impact.
